Yo Joe June, Day 3: Firefly!

Here we are at Day 3 of Yo Joe June! This is another of my most recent additions and it's not one to be taken lightly! I do want to point out that this came from the Comic Art Fans event, Comic Art Live! If you aren't familiar with Comic Art Fans, shame on you! It's an amazing resource of artists and artwork, not to mention it's just fun to look through all the art! They now host an "online convention" called Comic Art Live that features artwork for sale by members, some interviews and live streams and it's where I picked up this awesome piece of artwork!

Yo Joe June, Day 3: Firefly by Mike Vosburg!

Mike Vosburg has worked on comics titles like She-Hulk and American Flagg but as far as I'm concerned, his claim to fame is the 15 issues of GI Joe he drew in the 1980s! Not to mention Mike was the artist on the book when I started buying it with issue 12!

Mike really brought a solidness to the comic book that made it feel more like an adventure story than a super hero book. The characters all felt like they had weight to them, like they had lived in the real world and Mike was just sharing their story with me. In my opinion, this is also where Larry Hama really started to dig in and make these stories and characters his own but the point is, the book was great! Actually, it still is, I just reread this run a few days ago!

I've been lucky enough to get a few commissions from Mike, although I've never met him. Like I mentioned above, Mike had this Firefly for sale on Comic Art Live and I was instantly drawn to it! The actiony crouch Firefly has like he could attack in any direction! The dead guy behind the dumpsters! The cool tunnel! And the colors! Yeah, the colors put this over the top!

And did I mention it's by Mike Vosburg? The guy is every bit the artist, he even included his original, rough layout of the art! Not much changed, mostly some extra bad guys that went away. Mike is just a top notch artist, one of my favorite GI Joe artists and this piece proves all of that!
