I'm not sure at what point I became aware of Andrew Griffith's artwork but I know I was an immediate fan! I follow him on social media and I've read comic books he's drawn. And while he might be known for his work on Transformers, I obviously enjoy his GI Joe work!
I know I'd seen some GI Joe commissions from Andrew and wanted to get one and then my friend, Jon Thurmond got an amazing commission, of Scarlett flying a CLAW outside of the Silent Castle! Wow! So when the opportunity became available I jumped onto Andrew's commission list and went all in!
Yo Joe June, Day 5: Cover Girl by Andrew Griffith!
I gave my character choice some serious thought. I looked over a bunch of Andrew's work and while I was pretty comfortable with the idea that any character I picked was going to look great, I kept dwelling on his impressive looking Transformers! So then I thought about a character with a lot of tech or gear on their uniform.
Then I noticed I didn't have any special plans for Cover Girl. And I was a pretty big fan of the Wolverine toy, as a kid. Probably in my top 10 favorite vehicles. And I will never have enough artwork of GI Joe vehicles. So, I asked Andrew if adding the Wolverine was an option and we made it happen! And this piece is just jaw-dropping! Cover Girl has never looked more lovely and bad ass! And the Wolverine just fills the background! I don't know who wouldn't love all the detail in this beauty!
I have yet to meet Andrew Griffith in person. I have 3 commissions by him (Conversations at the end of this commission led to the next one. Which was almost today's post but I really felt this one needed to be shared!). I'm a huge fan of his work and I do see his posts online but honestly, he was so friendly and nice to interact with through email. I enjoy that correspondence a lot and hope I get the chance to meet him in person one day!
